Otago Innovation has been involved in a number of successful company formations, all based on University of Otago research. Below is an introduction to these companies.
BLIS Technologies Limited
Founded on technology from the University of Otago, Microbiology Department, the Company was
formed in June 2000 to pursue the commercialisation of BLIS bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances.
These are antibacterial peptides or proteins that are able to kill or control the growth of other
closely related bacteria. In addition to ongoing research, the Company has a range of products
already on the market and is currently developing a treatment for Halitosis (bad breath).

Delta S Technologies Limited
Delta S Technologies began in 2001 out of the need to find a better way to translate research breakthroughs
into real benefits for the industrial drying community. The roots of the research and system development
stretch back over twenty years, through work at the University of Otago to improve heat pump technology
and adapt it to the specific needs of New Zealand industry.

Pacific Edge Ltd
Pacific Edge Ltd is a biomedical company developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic products to
manage cancer and other diseases. The Company is based upon a powerful combination of world class skills and
resources that is unique in New Zealand. Pacific Edge combines expertise in cancer genetics, micro array technology
and proprietary bioinformatics developed within the University of Otago, with a network of clinical
collaborators scattered worldwide.

Photonic Innovations Limited
Photonic Innovations was formed in 2005 to commercialise sensor technology developed within the University of Otago. The company is founded on the basis of research conducted within the Jack Dodd Centre for
Photonics and Ultra-cold Atoms.

Harmonic Aotearoa Limited
Harmonic has been established to continue the work of MediaLab South Pacific Inc of facilitating
industry relevant research in digital media, IT and telecommunications. Harmonic will continue to work
with all research providers in New Zealand to provide competitive advantage for industry.

Immune Solutions Limited 
Immune Solutions was formed in late 2002 to commercialise, via an exclusive license, innovative applications of its Oral Delivery Technology platform. Oral Delivery Technology is an oral dose lipid matrix delivery system designed to replace injections, aerosols and patches. Oral Delivery Technology products will offer prevention, treatment and wellness solutions for animals and humans. The technology was developed through the collaborative efforts of the University of Otago, the Animal Health Board and AgResearch.
